Diabetes Education

Type 1 Diabetes structured education is currently in the form of four day structured education which takes place over the course of a month. We are also currently evaluating an on-line education tool with accompanying tutorials to provide a more flexible model of education provision. The courses are suitable for patients taking three fast-acting injections and at least one injection of long-acting insulin.

Option 1: 4 day ICICLE course.

Four consecutive Thursdays; suitable for those considering insulin pump therapy.

Option 2: 2 week ICICLE online programme

Two half days and two weeks of on-line education; not currently suitable for those considering insulin pump therapy. ICICLE Online - www.bdec-e-learning.com

What is ICICLE?

'Imperial College Insulin, Carbohydrate and Lifestyle Education'  Course gives teaching on carbohydrate counting, insulin dose adjustment, managing exercise, alcohol, hypos, complications and lifestyle.

Patient Feedback about ICICLE:

“The personal hands on approach - time to discover / learn more about controlling blood glucose levels, and sharing ideas”

“Liaising with other people (with diabetes) and professional answers from tutors”

“Excellent – will really help me take positive steps to keeping my levels balanced”

"Before the course the thought of doing any exercise on my own was totally inconceivable as I was too afraid of having a hypo. Being a sporty person this fear became quite debilitating and frustrating.  The course at Charing Cross gave me the confidence to enjoy sport again"
